Some Antique (Truly) Furniture

My friend with the clocks and watches (thanks for the info!) also inherited some antique furniture. Thought I would share some quick pix for your pleasure and also if you can give any info as to age and style, that would be much appreciated. There's quite a bit, so I'll just start and maybe make a couple more threads...eventually! Wendy

Up first: sewing chest, small china cabinet, dining room chairs (set of 6 IIRC)

Is it just me,or does that sewing stand look like a marriage ? I wanna know about that lamp !

 

Couldn't see anything that would indicate it's a marriage. I'll ask about the lamp, Johnny, but I'm pretty sure it's new.

 

The sewing table looks natural to me, but the fussy bobbin turned legs and plain top do give a married impression. However, I don't think this is unusual for a mid 19th C table. I have seen many similar.

 

Nice stuff. The sewing stand looks to be circa 1865 and walnut. I see nothing wrong with it. The china cabinet (maybe really a bookcase?) is probably early 20th century. Vaguely Chippendale in style and likely Mahogany. The chairs are also early 20th century and a mish-mash of styles. Having a set is essential to having any value.

 

Thanks, Brad. I wasn't too sure about the age of the chairs. And yeah, bookcase makes sense, but works as a small china cabinet -- size is good for this market, but my friend isn't selling the furniture at this point.

 

English Victorian sewing table, circa 1860-1870. Mahogany and burl walnut. Agree with Brad on the other pieces as well.

 

I was going to say walnut and mahogany too for the sewing stand, but shelly said it soo much better! Thank you.
