Interesting ad. That is the only reference to the company anywhere!

Have you checked the "restaurant ware" sites?

You'll probably never find who made the pottery for this catering company.

Hi! I'm a new follower, learning how to post & haven't mastered pasting links or anything yet, so my apologies. Anyhow...
The pottery mark looks to me like BARR is the manufacturer & CATERER is the pattern. I checked my many reference books & Godden's Encyclopaedia Of British Pottery And Porcelain Marks, page 695, states...
"Barr" printed mark, used by the Royal Worcester Company (which was Barr, Flight & Barr from c.1807-1813) on an experimental body, c.1896."
I also turned up a shop in Springfield, Mass. owned by McCarty & Co. He sold consignments from Royal Worcester starting in 1890- (info. from The American Stationer, page 705, Sept. 18, 1890). So... the platter could very well be from the McCarty & Co. store. Hope this helps.

I found several references to the Barr, caterer, company in Springfield, MA. Most of the references were connected to events that occured at colleges in that area of Massachusetts. Here is an ad of the caterering company in the Oct 1897 Amherst Student publication (Amherst College). It includes a thank you to the company for a caterering dinner served to a group from the college in Springfield. It is on the 2nd page of the publication. The first image is the cover and the next page is of ads with the Barr's ad on bottom row. I think the link should take you directly to the page with the ad.
