Hi everyone, I recently found this at the old home we live in, which is from the late 1800's to early 1900's in Mississippi, and I've looked everywhere to try and figure out what it could be but no luck. The first thing that came to mind was a jaw harp but I haven't found any online that resemble this thing, so I thought I'd try here. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

LOL! Got this one! It opens wine bottles. :) And could be from many eras - still made, AFAIK.

It's a wine bottle opener. Unlikely to be terribly old.

Hehe, great minds... We used to get them free from wine vendors, not my favorite.

Eh, I was a high-volume bartender for years- a good quality wine key is what I still use, it's fast, efficient and no messing around working those tines into the bottle...

    "Its just a NIGHTMARE!"

All those bits of cork in the wine! OMG - all those poor people who have naught to eat but rice now have to deal with the horror of bits CORK in their wine. Will the trials and travails of First World problems never end???? Can our world keep spinning on its axis with such heavy and life threatening issues hanging over our heads?

Sorry - stepping down now, the air is much too rarefied up here on the soap box................

Not my photo, but I have done this.

It was late. Broke the tip off the corkscrew. Would have been inappropriate to drive anywhere.

Too funny! I have pretty much any type of corkscrew/wine opener available, often given as gifts, and at least a dozen wine keys (am slightly obsessed with all sorts of practical sharp things). Can remember a wedding reception where I was free-lancing, tree fell on a car and took out the electrical lines, so the only light we had for hours were candles - fortunately only wine and draft beer, learned that I can efficiently open wine blind, and knew the beer glasses were full when it ran onto my hand...

lol, I would rather use the hammer and nail method -- and I ended up with half the cork in the bottle.

I am full on wing-style corkscrew.

    Which can double as puppet.

    If the need arises.
