Some Antique (Truly) Furniture, Part 4

Pair (only showing one) Chippendale style chairs. This one is in disrepair. You can see where a new corner support (I dunno the proper term) has been applied at some point. I rather like this and I think (I didn't see it) the other chair is in better condition.

Yeah, the legs have that Chinese Chippendale style fretting, but I have no idea how old the chairs are -- early 19th c.?

Yep, me too, Johnny! Except that I see "old" style of manufacture with the only new part being the corner support underneath the bottom.

 

Don't know enough about what a period example should look like but think these at least late 19th century. Has Flanaganlane found her way here?

 

I was thinking the same, Brad. Maybe I'll message Flanagan as I think she might be able to date these fairly closely. I like this pair a lot and would certainly have the one pictured repaired.

 

I'm here, LOL. These are not 18th century, the corner blocking is 19th century or later. Corner blocks are often replaced though. Can we see a picture of the back leg from the inside just to be sure? 18th century back legs on Chippendale chairs are very different than 19th or later chairs.
