Featured Just reinvested the amount of the African bangle!

I have the book in print! I first saw the online one I posted, but soon after I found a second hand copy, so I had to have it.

 

I'll say it - I'm jealous. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong spots, but I never see such cool jewelry (especially "ethnic") when I'm perusing auctions or going to thrift stores here in the U.S.

Yeah, that's key to finding much of anything jewelry-wise these days. Still, we never get the cool unique finds that y'all get across the ocean. Maybe it's just because I'm so used to the jewelry here that I'm more intrigued with the finds you ladies/guys get.

 

Greetings, @kyratango and @Any Jewelry. I am, as usual, late to the party, but I hope the following is helpful. Or amusing, at a minimum.

In Turkish, the word for 'a holder of' is "tutacağı." The c is pronounced like a j and the ğ rather like a guttural y. Cigarette is "sigara" and cigar is "puro". Both pronounced pretty much as written in English. So a cigarette holder would be "sigara tutacağı."

Wear is a tough one; sometimes these pieces were unloved gifts you didn't want to give away. I gave away a set of marigold Depression candlesticks years ago without a scratch on the base. They were my grandmothers, who got them new, but who put them in a cupboard and never used them. They sat unused for pushing 70 years and looked brand new when we gave them away.
