Featured Old walnut couch (Louis V, Louis-Philippe or Napoléon III?)

Hi!

I'm new here and was wondering if anyone could help me with identifying this couch. I think it's walnut.

It was given to me by a woman who had downsized and no longer had space for it. It belonged to her Grandmother along with another similar one.

She said that it was Louis XV in both style and period, so around 1750. Some of the style however more closely ressembles Louis-Philippe and Napoléon III however.

Does anyone have any idea one way or another?

It needs reupholstered as the front is tatty. I know it's also been reupholstered at least once in its life.

For clarification, I'm not planning on selling this. I love it and I want to keep it for future use. I'm simply curious.

 

I'd guess Nappy 3 style-wise - and late in the period at that.

Now, lets see what it REALLY is! Others will be along - others that have much more actual knowledge than I!

French Louis-Philippe, I have a set from family heirloom.
Louis-Philippe furniture is natural wood, either mahogany, walnut.
The above is ebonized wood, the feet make it Victorian looking...

Don't know my Louis' but roughly equivalent to early Victorian as opposed to late.

Well, you know, this isn't my thing at all but, i'd say the form you posted is very close, ditto kyra.

Uhhhhh, Noooooo, it's french isn't it? If it ain't american, it ain't happening! in my world at least.

 

Although, i did bid on a 17th century american chest this past weekend that reportedly has "french inspired" carved marigolds!

Missed, went for 17k, which was fair i'd say.

Thanks for your replies and sorry for not answering sooner. That pretty much confirms what I was thinking. I have an armchair from the Louis-Philippe period which is of a similar style which is why I had my doubts.

I suspect what caused the confusion with the original owner was that the Louis-Philippe and Napoléon III styles both borrowed from the Louis XV (18th century) style.
