    Greetings,

    I’ve got this fork looking thing and spoon which look like they belong together. Only one of them has any marks: FD415526-AC71-4E43-B06F-698AF90540B9.jpeg CFB7083D-8F53-438B-A7AA-91F4C76FEFCA.jpeg 419476C6-D917-429C-8335-A027F2F50719.jpeg

    Is it normal to see one have marks and not the other? Anyone familiar with this style?

    Well, they're Norwegian, enameled sterling. Not sure why only one has it's silver mark, but I do believe from the matching enamel decor that they are a pair. From the little barbs on the ends of the 2 tines of the fork, looks like a serving piece and the spoon too I imagine.

    @DragonflyWink probably knows more.

    I’m on a roll today lol. I got some spoons earlier today from Denmark. I guessed Russian when I saw these, I was WAY off.

    These are about 6 inches long.

    The Scandinavians do seem to really like enamel on their flatware, I know Dragonflywink has something of a collection of it.

    Now that I think about it, I live about 35 miles outside of Solvang, CA. It’s a good sized Danish community. May explain why I’ve been finding so many Scandinavian items these last few months now that I know what to look for.

    I find a fair amount of Norwegian here in Seattle (which had a large immigration for the fishing industry from there.)

    David Andersen, late 19th early 20th century - I have a loop-handle sugar spoon in the same pattern. Have seen reference to it being a Gustav Gaudernack design, and doesn't seem unlikely, he was quite prolific when with David Andersen, but can't recall seeing any definitive proof that this was one of his...

    My favorite Gaudernack design for D-A, the 1908 plique-à-jour 'Libelleskålen' (Dragonfly Bowl), at the National Museum in Oslo:

    Should mention that the design is similar to some Russian spoons, and likely based on them...

    Yup, that piece is a real stunner!

    Sorry, have a little more time now - not particularly unusual to be unmarked, especially since they would have most likely been sold as a boxed set. At that size they were probably sold as a butter fork (smørgaffel) and jam spoon (syltetøyskje). Will dig out my sugar spoon in a few minutes and take a quick pic...

    Wow! Dead ringer! What’s with the little loop on the spoon handle?

    It's a traditional Norwegian sugar spoon, though I've never found the origin and don't believe I've ever seen any that date earlier than around the mid 19th century - I have several variants including the plique-à-jour and champlevé enamel piece below. A sweet Norwegian lady told me years ago that they were a common wedding gift, and a short verse was sometimes included, "The path of love may be twisted, but the end is sweet." (they're actually quite comfortable in the hand).

    Fantasic examples, thank you for sharing these and the background on the sugar spoons. I just caught on that these and the spoon you showed are all David Andersen. (Don’t know how I missed it the first time.)

    Being a recent fan of his jewelry, I am absolutely over the moon to know this detail.
