Cxgirl, thank you so much. My "two working men" postcard arrived today. It has such a sharp, crisp, clean image of the two men. I am very happy to have it.

I got a kick out of the handwritten note to Ethel on the back: "Ethel, you'll know who these fellows are eh?" Hmmm, wonder what the history of that is?????

I really like it and intend to keep it safe as a bookmark in one of my favorites books of all time -- Studs Terkel's Working.

yourturn, I saw that note and wondered the same thing. I love postcards when they have notes on the back, some of them are a real hoot!

I know this thread is dated now, but just now caught up with this Give-away section. As to the pic of King Geo VI and Q. Eliz, I believe that pic was taken during K. Geo VI and QE 1939 visit to Canada. The man walking behind the lady in question appears to be Canadian Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King "Mackenzie King" who served as Canadian PM Dec 29, 1921- Jun 28, 1926; Sep 25, 1926 - Aug 7, 1930; and Oct 23, 1935 - Nov 15, 1948.

The woman in question like others have noted isn't the Princess Royal. Who she is, I don't know but seeing she is wearing a grand corsage, she may be the wife of the pm of the particular province they are in, possibly a lady-in-waiting who would accompany the Queen, or Susan Buchan the wife of the John Buchan then the Governor General of Canada? Too bad the pic didn't include a full view of the arch behind them. The arch seems to have a name on it that ends in LL. If they were in Montreal, I would guess possibly McGill University, but doubt the King would have been in full uniform for a visit to an educational institute.
