Metal Sculpture

Hi Y'all,

My Grandfather was born in 1908 in NYC and grew up there. He travelled all through Europe through the years and worked with all kinds of metals. He had this piece in his garage forever it seemed and then ended up in my garage. I always wondered what it was. I have searched before then gave up, and finally looked again and came across this site. It has the marking "MARTEL" and "made in France" , the #19 on the bottom backside. I was hoping someone would be able to help. Thank you.

I think it's very Jan and Joël Martel, but I haven't found a sig, yet.

 

On the bottom tail? It has MARTEL, but that is about the only thing I could find.

 

I meant a sig to compare to.

Now I'm questioning if it even looks like their work, though. There's something about the lines that work, but maybe too abstract...

 

Not sure if it makes a difference. It is pretty heavy, weighs about 2lbs at least I would guess.

 

All of their sigs seem to include "JJ," so probably not.

What's the material of your base?

 

Need a better picture of the writing on the bottom. There is more info there.

 

If you put a little talc or chalk dust on the base it might bring up the writing and make it clearer.

 

Okay, that first line says "made in france" lol...

I think there is more below that, but picture quality is smudgy.

 

Haha, I gathered that too. There isn't anything else in writing on it. That was all, just reflection on the picture. Back to being stumped I suppose. Ha
