    Hi folks

found this hand painted plate in a charity shop this week (£3)
as i took the price label off, a big chunk of the turquoise paint came off with the cellotape.

it had 2 overglaze turquoise panels painted on top and bottom

somebody had already had a go at restoring parts of turq panels badly

anyway most of it came off easily with more tape, but it still has remnants

dya reckon its best to get rid of the excess turq and if so how ?
or try to overpaint it myself (enamel paints ?)

be good to know what the plate actually is, and ifs it worth bothering

    any help or thoughts appreciated

I think some one added the blue. I'd try and remove it.

thanks obb, i thought it was odd that only the blue was overglaze, all the gilding and everything else is under

maybe leave in soaking in something over night

the paint will cost about £8 and dont know what it will come out like, i am tempted to give it a go though

Thanks, I am quite tempted to try and paint it, just don't want it to look as though it has been obviously over painted, which I think is gonna be hard

Love those birds and butterflies on the cherry blossoms. I would actually like it more if it was just that without the busy flowers on the left. Still nice if you can get that blue off or fix it.

I took the liberty of adding some blue to see what it might have looked like. Those little numbers on the back make me think might be English.

    Wow! Excellent editing work:woot:
Painting the piece in real life will be really difficult to get a smooth result..... all these tiny dots to mask if yo use an aerograph!

    I heard you! :p
:joyful::joyful: Yes, why do you whisper?:bored::hilarious:
Obtaining a smooth finish with a paint brush seems impossible to me:sour:
Using an aerograph (I never did, but saw videos of porcelain restorers using that!) would be the way to go after getting out the remains of the blue. BUT... how to not cover all these little gold dots??:nailbiting:

Have you thought about Goo-Be-Gone? I use it to get rid of overspray.

Or, perhaps, ask advice from a hobbyist club of paint on porcelain?

If it was painted with acrylics and not cold-glazed over you can try some 70% or 90% isopropyl alcohol on a small piece of paper towel to see if that takes off the paint - that would be my first step. Just rub it, or leave a saturated small piece on the paint for a few minutes and then scrape with your fingernail.

I'm really carefully with flammable solvents, so i usually flush the paper towel down the toilet afterwards (tear any bigger pieces of paper towel into pieces first).
