How do I date this and determine the materials

This is a heavy piece for the size. The edge is bright, could be the bronze or copper showing through (copper color) or could be paint. How can I tell if it's a beautiful piece or a valuable piece?

 

If you could please edit your post and select Full Size for the images, it would be helpful. The glass/pottery people will appreciate it.

 

In your last picture it looks like light shining through or is that a reflection?
And I'm trying to make sense of the outside decoration - or do you think it is just random?

Yes, that's just the light shining on the piece. The inside colors are mainly turquoise and the outside is a burnt red. As for the outside picture, I couldn't make sense either, in some areas I'd think I saw a dragon beginning to form. Then I stopped trying, I didn't want to force something that wasn't there. Should I send another picture?

I think it is 1960s-70s enamel on copper.

Thank you for your guidance, I was thinking the same with materials. I had no idea on the date. Late 50's and early 70's is when my families would have purchased these types of items. However, they have items from the late 1800s and early 1900s from their ancestors, and mine too.

Yes, that was my first thought, it's gorgeous. I have sold several of these but largely Italian, this pattern is quite oriental?
