I don't think its a monogram. Emblematic of something? What about the marks on the back? I though maybe sterling silver, a maker's mark, and the owner's initials? Any thoughts?

You might want to check Ola Gorie. :cat:

It looks like a solje without the dangles, i.e. the design looks Scandinavian.

Calico: Yes, thank you! Found it under that name. It's called a luckenbooth pendant and here's part of what Wikipedia says:

The luckenbooth brooch is a traditional Scottish love token: often given as a betrothal or wedding brooch. It might be worn by a nursing mother as a charm to help her milk flow, and/or be pinned to a baby's clothing to protect it from harm. It was known as a witch-brooch by people using it to save children from the evil eye.

So KingofThings was right with the Scottish connection as well.

    evelyn30: wouldn't doubt there's some cultural connection.

It wouldn't surprise me. The Swedes and Norwegians have specialized wedding brooches, and traded with/raided the Scots from time immemorial. There aren't any Scottish hallmarks on the piece, oddly. It might be American or Canadian.

No, it's fine. I've got some Ola Gorie pieces with similar marks. They've always been Scottish made. Have a google on Sheila Fleet if you'd like to drool on another Scottish maker!

It can also happen if the page times out. The system logs you out, and then the post doesn't go in since you're not logged in.
