She is 14" tall and weighs 5 lbs.
I believe spelter and maybe after Bouret?
There is what looks like some clay under some areas? But it is basically metal.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
I am just beginning to research as i just picked it up today.
    I hope I got my $15.00 worth.

I don't see anything that looks metallic, as spelter should...an' her broken toe would be where I would expect to notice that. Composite, or clay, I'm thinking.
She is lovely, anyway...an' the toe is a minor thing, overall.

I can't explain the clay showing on the damage. But I can tell weather something is plaster or metal. This is hollow metal. But thanks for looking.

Design-Arts, Inc. seems to have produced a lot of chalkware. Active in the 1980s according to the internet.

No offense intended, Bulldogs. Just sayin' what I see...or don't, in this case.

No offense taken at all! It's the tap test that tells me it is metal.
I hope someone comes along that knows about this interesting multi material sculpture.
Any idea who she is depicting?

It’s a nice thing. I would think it’s completely terracotta. Hellenistic..

Neoclassical. If it is meant to be anyone in particular, I don't recognize her. The Muses Erato & Terpsichore are both depicted with a lyre, not a harp of this shape, which is more like an Irish harp.

Could be bronze clad over pottery. Basically a plating process.

this is metal with a thin layer of pottery? Over then the finish?

Since he did some other Muses, maybe then this is Erato (because seated; Terpsichore likely to be on her feet) & he was not adhering strictly to convention regarding the instrument. He seems to have had a fondness for harps.

From your description that sounds like what it is: not pottery coated to look like metal; metal coated to look like terra cotta.

Not what I am talking about. What I know is pottery with an electroplate of metal. Like Clewel pottery. Can't think of the company that did bookends and other things.

Can't figure out how to post a link from my phone. If you search bronze clad bookends you will see what I am talking about. There is one link that lists companies that used the process.
