Edited-May be the front of a cash register drawer. Reliance was one of many sub-brands available from Michigan Cash Register Co. 1907-1922. Size and shape of plate looks right for a cash register drawer front, and large hole may be where key-lock is accessed. The decorative designs around the brand name and the two mounting screw locations match those on "Michigan" drawer fronts.

I don't know why Reliance Stove company popped into my head.
I'm not finding anything old enough to fit this.

The metal design looks to be early 1900s

There was a Reliance tractor company that was absorbed into another company very early on - but I have no handy reference for it right now.

Allis-Chalmers. Reliance started out as a "small burr millstone maker" in 1847. It made French burr milestones, portable mills, shafting and water wheels. In 1861, it was purchased be Edward Allis. By 1869 they were making steam engines. In 1901 the company merged with the Chalmers Co. and Gate Iron Works becoming Allis-Chalmers. They built their 1st tractor in 1910. Scroll down a little to the pic of the tractor. Their history begins after the pic.

Here is a pic of a Charles Burrell & Son of England 1907 steam tractor called a "Reliance."

These were 2 manufacturers using the name "Reliance." I bet there were a good dozen others. Here's another, Reliance Motor Truck Company of c1900. It may have become General Motors Truck Company (GMC Trucks) or GMC took them over?
