Out of interest,as I've never held carved lava, is it very solid or slightly fragile?

It's very light - you have to be careful not to rub the surface too much or it can wear. I've other bits of modern lava jewellery. Fairly solid, but I'd not risk dropping it!

It’s been pretty bad at the garage sales in the last 2weekends. Last week I came home with just a bag of gooseberries and this week seemed no better. Just wall to wall kids modern toys. I bought some Codd bottles and came across this big garish pink silver ring for £1. Went home and found the ring was made by David Scott Walker a Sheffield silversmith, its a dyed agate I believe and backed by mop. Quite expensive to buy so not such a dead loss in the end.

EE7547FB-02DD-4D56-B02D-E276ACC7A602.jpeg Some bits from the c shops today. The Deco amethyst drop is missing one of the drops but a little pearl might look ok. Plus the chain is knotted on! I didn’t notice the shell earrings were broken either but the earrings were all just 50 pence and the necklaces £1.50 each.

I thought it was just me who bouught gooseberries at boot sales. My usual seller does superb plants as well, but yesterday I got the last of his goosegogs and some subblime raspberries.

They certainly always seem to taste better than those from the supermarkets.

    Hi,
Talking about gooseberries. Several years ago I was at an asian market and one of the sellers was cursing. I asked what was wrong? He said he bought a large container of berries and they were very bitter. I saw a large container of gooseberries that he was upset over. I asked how much they were. He said he spent 12 dollars on the damn things. I offered him the 12 dollars that he spent. He agreed and I went home and made 45 jars of gooseberry jam. Want to guess what everyone got for Christmas that year?

Meanwhile, there are no gooseberries here except on rare occasions. Cool British silver rings either. Tag sales full of Kiddie Crud? Those are universal. This weekend's best tag sale find had four feet and stripey orange coat. He was the neighborhood tomcat named Percy. He has an official house though, so he wasn't for sale. :cat:

There's one farm in state, too far away to drive to and be in any shape to pick anything when I got there.

There's goosegogs and there's goosegogs. When you get them in supermarkets, which isn't often as they're a bugger to pick, they're those little sharp things, only good for sauce or jam. Car boot man gets fat Golden Levellers and dark purple ones. Best eaten quickly, often before I leave the car park. Sweet gloriousness.

Now I have to google gooseberries. I was at IKEA and I think when I got the Swedish meatball platter there was gooseberry jam on it, kinda like you would have cranberry sauce with turkey.

Gooseberry conserve, made from the cooking varieties, is a lovely sharp taste. Have a look at gooseberry fool, too. Car boot man also grows white currants and loganberries, plus some veggies. Yum.

Haven’t had lingonberries since my Norwegian grandmother was alive. She also served “cloudberries” on occasion. Yum and thanks for the trip down memory lane!
