Featured Secretaire/Desk XIX century?

    Hello guys,

    I am just wondering how could someone throw such a beautiful piece to rubbish...

    Does anyone know what exactly is this? What material? Is it the XIX c. as I have managed to search on the Internet?

    While we are waiting for Brad (he's the person you Really want to weigh in here), I am going to guess that, handsome as the piece is, it is not as old as it looks as if it might be. The lower quarter seems off somehow. 40's?

    However, Mansons and I would both be "sitting" on it. :)!

    I would say early 1900`s maybe 1910 oak, possibly English.

    As mentioned, Brad knows the most about furniture.

    My 2 cents.
    Probably English Oak from the 1920s-30s.

    I agree English oak secretary circa 1920. Some William and Mary influence with those bulbous legs. Looks like the feet may have been cut off at some point, as I would not expect those stretchers to sit so close to the floor like that.

    My english oak buffet has very similar feet with that chunky square block at the bottom....looks out of place ...but it's there....and my stretcher is also only a half inch off the floor.
    Similar drop hardware too...
    I think the circa 1920 is solid.

    Any antique lover would have snaffled that. It's solid wood and you can't beat the price. It seems to have found a good home; I'd dust it off a bit and load it with books and papers. I doesn't seem to need much else.

    I'd call it a bureau-bookcase, and I agree with the others,1920s.

    It went to the trash because they are fetching almost no money nowadays.
