Looks like rolled gold or gold filled, late 19th from the tube hinge. Sweet, I would have nabbed that!

Yup, mid to late 19th C lovers knot. Later safety chain. May actually be hollow gold.

May even have been meant to hold a watch. I see what looks like a bent-up hook on the back. It could either be solid gold or really good gold-filled. The Victorians used more than we do now and it held up. Safety chains are good things; I wish brooches still had them.

thank you so much for the effort and time you put into looking at it and answering it.
@Marie Forjan I donno what a tube hinge is but the broche has a some sort of inside curled C clasp and a smal triangle shape safety chain. So i think @evelyb30 is right when she says it may also have been used for a watch.

does it hept to narrow the periode range. is it mid of late 19th century?

aha I thought a sailor's knot  but lovers knot sounds more appropriate. thanks for that. Do you mean that the safety chain added later? how can i be sure its hollow gold and not gold filled?

, :shame: you think these are real stones? was common in that period to use such large stones?. it's quite a bling-bling thing:playful:

The only way to know for sure is to have them tested.

It's hollow tubing, you can see the solder lines and separation.

Doesn't help determine what they made it out of. Gold is expensive and they usually make it hollow if they can to save weight. Then again rolled gold could also be done that way.

I assumed that the gray color indicates the loss of gold fill. But despite the size material being so light, I didn't know which material would be used as base material. it can't be tin, neither can copper.... so perhaps its rolled / hollow gold

The off color of the solder next to one of the stones looks like a repair job. It's hard to see many things from just a couple of photos.

They may well be real amethyst, they've got the depth. Yes, the safety chain is a much more modern style.
