    Hi!

I am trying to find out more about this kerosene/oil lamp that has legally come into my possession.

Who or what company made it? How old is it? What is it worth?......please.

The wick has never been opened/used and is still sealed at the top of the base piece. The lamp is almost entirely made out of glass. On the bottom, there are the letters H and what appears to be V E fused together. (see photo).

Anything you can tell me about it would be most appreciative. ty

It's a two part figural wine bottle in the form of an oil lamp. I think they're italian. Mid/late 20th. century.

One I saw on the web is said to have been made by Milford, but I'm clueless on wine bottles.

ty 42Skeezix....That actually makes sense. I thought I had seen a wick in there. Guess I was wrong....Oh well...If that is the worst mistake I make today...I ought to be thankful....

So what is it worth please?

Update: Now that I know its wine bottle/decanter....It made the web search easier. I found one on a popular auction site. The name of the company that makes it is Orvieto. The letters are the same on that one as this one...But if the one from Milford is a match too, please post a picture of the bottom of it please. Right now, I am trying to figure out what its worth please.

While this site can be most helpful in determining an items origin, it's not a site for getting current market value quotes......unless a member feels so inclined and has a solid basis for their observation.

For an items value research into current sales is one way to determine it's worth.

Here's one that looks like yours unopened with some orig labels and owner started his auction at $30. currently no bids and three days to go. Put this auction on your ebay "watch" list and you will find out if it sold and for how much. There's also a fairly extensive description which will help you sell yours. He doesn't mention the marks on the base but I'd guess they are same as on yours. Good luck

Note that this is apparently the 4th time he has listed the same item. First start was $40. and next two $30.

ty again springfld.arsenal I have enough information to able to sell it. Unfortunately, if I want to sell it online....the wine bottle will have to be opened since alcohol cannot be mailed through my primary mail carrier. I am going to try and sell it unopened locally first. I do know a collector who specializes in green glass would probably love this piece.

I only paid a $1.00 for it at a thrift store.

Orvieto will be the region the wine was made in, rather than the company. And ratehr nice it is, too. I'd try drinking it.

Ah, but if it has turned to vinegar, you can always
    "sip it then spit it"
there should be no harm in tasting it unless there are some unidentified "thingys" floating in it. They can be a bother if they get caught between your teeth..............
