We recently downsized and are going to be selling a few antiques. I want to be sure that I advertise what I have correctly, as I don't want to take advantage or be taken advantage of, by potential buyers. I'm not looking for values, just provenance. I appreciate any help or advice. First up is a table we inherited from my sister.
The research I've done would seem to indicate it's a 19th century English Pub Table, but of course it could be a replica. It's two leaves open to make a dining size table. Structurally it seems sound, aesth etically there are some issues. Not sure if the chairs go with it. One of the chairs had the base replaced. It has what I believe is a maker's mark on the bottom, as well as an old auction sticker. Open to any opinions. Thank you!

English draw-leaf table More likely 20th century …. 20s-30s. Name could be owner's and doubt it matters much who made this.

Brad, thank you, that was fast!!! That will certainly make a huge difference in value.

That being the case, is restoration of the table top worthwhile?

Hi Fid! Nope, for sure my sister bought it at a flea market or antique store.

was just a thought. sometimes it helps to limit era and value of stuff. good luck.

Doesn't look like it needs much. Some Howard's or Old English would make this look a lot better with little work. I wouldn't refinish.

BTW: The chairs are from the same era but probably mot a match to this table. Would expect a turned front leg on a chair that came with the table.

  9. I would not go to the trouble of refinishing it, as you would probably not gain your money back. I agree with verybad - Howards Restor-a-finish will polish it right up!

It may even be post war. Might be someone like Olde Charm. the proper matching chairs would have had the same Tudorbethan look as the table. I think they may be 50s.

The dealer was in Thetford, label and phone are 1970s into 80s.

Oh, and I bet the original owner was based at Mildenhall or Lakenheath.

Don't know if you are in the US, but during the late 70s and early 80s they were bringing cargo containers of English "antiques" over to the US.
I remember one dealer who got a shipment every few months.

Should add a lot of what came over was English Oak, tables, hall trees and armoires.

Very true, we sent a lot of brown across the pond. That was never a pub table, by the way, just a regular dining table. Drop leaf here rather than draw leaf.
