Just a little help with the age of these. I plan to clean them up a bit and sell them. I know they were taken over by international in 1899 and the mark was used by them till the 1940's See the pat. date of 1906 I think?

    Grape was 'in' around 1910

With the "quadruple" designation, I'd say any time between the 1906 patent date and roughly 1912.

Grapes are still "in." But as Terry points out the first decade of the 1900's saw a lot of them used in flatware and hollowware designs.

    Hi,
Check a calender for the Jan 09 date. All patents are issued on Tuesdays only So find out what year has Jan 09 on Tuesday and you have your year. I have a perpetual cal. on my pc but I can not find it. dang nabbit.

An old toothbrush will clear away the traces of caked-on polish.

Thanks for all of your help and advice. the toothbrush worked perfect, it was getting the wax out of the crevices that was the chore though. i think they look good enough now.

Am I the only one that wants to know what is the reason for the Tuesday designation??

(That's another factoid I will have to casually insert into some future conversation! Along with "spalling." And what was the other one...?)

    Hi Silver,
Don't know the reason for Tuesdays but it has helped finding the year on several pieces. Also there was a time when an iron object was found to be bogus because it had a wrong date.

To my eye, the swirly parts have an Art Nouveau look, which fits the time period. I think I'd mention this if I listed these.

I have the same pair Mikey! I was with my dad at a church rummage sale in the early 70's in Montreal and I fell in love with them. I think he paid 25$ or30$ for the pair. Any idea what they are worth? I really love them and they are on my sideboard in my livingroom. I have also seen a similar pair used on a church alter.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I see Mikey has not logged in here since April ... I hope he shows up soon.
