oriental carved chess board id

    Hi, i picked up this carved oriental chess board today at a yard sale. I am not really certain what material this is made out of. It looks to be wood but touching it doesnt feel like wood. On the back its just green velvet. I tried searching for it but couldnt find one similar. also is this chinese or japanese? I thought it was pretty well done. Also the actual squares are carved as well with a dragon figure. Any info would be great thank you!
