    Hi,
I am a new member and need information, regarding Jelly Belly brooches.
I own a vintage jelly belly sterling Flamingo brooch. It is a very nice piece, IMHO.
I've listed it auction format and buy it now format, including various prices, without success.
The asking price is far below completed listing prices of similar items. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you and Have a Great Day.

Welcome, whatmamahad! It's hard to comment without more information. Can we start with pictures? I've never heard of a Jelly Belly brooch, much less one in the shape of a flamingo.

And just where did you list it? Can you link a recent ended listing here so we can see what it said and looked like?

    Bakers -
A jelly belly brooch is what they call a pin with usually a glass or sometimes plastic belly with the body of the animal in metal.

    What -
    Welcome to the board.
I generally do not do well with jelly belly brooches in my B&M (CA)

I would focus on the Flamingo aspect. There are quite a few Flamingo collectors.

Pictures of front and back would help us here.

As far as Jelly Bellies go, the ones that get the most money and known as true jelly belly brooches are the Crown Trifari ones with the clear lucite bellies and sterling bodies.

As was suggested, if the original poster can link us to the closed auction (was it Ebay?) that would be best.

Trivia.... All Jelly Belly jellybean displays, with large characters, dancing groups too of various lengths/character count, are made in Washington state. First in Seattle now in Mukilteo.
    How do I know..... ;)
    I am a fabricator you know. :)

The bug is not a true jelly Belly. Jelly Bellies should have clear lucite bellies, some are sterling, some aren't. Here's one of mine, a large Trifari piece.
The most desirable Bellies are from the late 1930's-early 50's.

Here's the back if you'd like to see it, this one is from the early 40's and a fur clip.

    Hi,
The brooch is currently listed on eBay. I don't have pictures of it on my cell phone.
There are several Jelly Belly brooches listed on eBay. I simply do not know why it hasn't sold.
I'VE PRICED IT WELL below similar pieces.
I thank you for your time.
    Kind Regards,

Whatmamahad, is this your item ?
While it is a nice pin it's not a true Jelly Belly. True Jelly Bellies have a clear lucite 'belly' although it could also have a clear lucite head, body or another area.
This one is a 1940's unmarked sterling flamingo brooch with a glass stone body with rhinestone accents.
Nice vintage pin, but not a Jelly Belly, and serious Jelly Belly collectors know their Bellies.
You would do better by removing 'Jelly Belly' from your title and description and maybe start the auction at a lower price and let the bidders decide the value.
    Good luck !

I have always liked the story that originally jelly belly jewelry used WWII surplus plexiglass from bombers.

"Many costume jewelry manufacturers used the jelly bellies, but most famous are the Trifari and Corocraft sterling designs, which incorporated fantastic design with breathtaking quality of materials and craftsmanship. A story in circulation is that as part of their War efforts, Trifari installed Plexiglas windshields & turrets in military bombers. The company would only use flawless material. They were left with rejected material and rather than throw it away Alfred Phillipe had cabochons cut from the Plexiglas and incorporated them into jewelry designs."
