I have this pitcher set that my Hungarian grandmother handed down to me years ago. Can anyone tell me any information about it? It doesn't seem to look Hungarian and I can't make out any of the markings on the bottom. Thank you!

The white decoration is textured, right? I believe you would call this slip decorated. I can't tell from the pictures, is the clay red? It could be slip decorated redware from eastern Europe or Scandinavia. You might find something similar by searching under those terms.

Yes, the decoration is textured and it appears the clay is red. I just did a quick search for slip decorated redware and actually this may even help me with another piece I've been trying to get information on. From the description and pictures of slip decorated redware it looks like both of these pitchers could possibly fit the description. The blue set I originally posted doesn't seem to have any glaze over the texture. Is it common to texture a piece without using a glaze over the texture? Here are some pictures of the other piece I think might fall under the classification of slip decorated redware. I am going to continue the online research of this. Very interesting! Thanks Juli!

Yes, it can be left unglazed or be glazed like your other set.

    Good luck!

I saw a lot of this blue and white on sale in Budapest. Your green pieces are rather like the stuff from Troyan in Bulgaria.
