Not sure how this sight works….just trying to get some clarity about these beads that I have. They are genuine amber not plastic or Bakelite

    Lovely necklace, and welcome.
I assume you have tested them, but just wondering, which tests did you use?

...especially since they look like lucite from here. They're the wrong color for any amber I've seen, and those "stripes" aren't anything I've seen in real amber either. Not that I've seen all there is to see. If those were legit egg yolk amber I'd expect to see at least sterling findings if not gold.

if they've been completely restrung; the findings on these are 1990s or later.

@Tnorahs did you reuse the original clasp or add a new one?

Welcome, Tnorahs. I'm wondering whether they are this sort of thing, vintage/antique faux amber from one of the Himalayan countries.

@Any Jewelry You explained this material another time, long ago, what was it again? Like you, I would first like to know which test(s) were performed that indicated amber.

Ditto. I have faux amber beads with stripes, but slightly different. On a Yemeni necklace, possibly on a Berber necklace as well. Yemeni faux amber is usually 'genuine' phenolic resin, imported from Germany pre-1940.

I wonder if these could be one of the early plastics.
I call those Tibetan beads faux amber made of an 'undetermined material'.
Berber women often melt plastic buckets for their faux amber beads, but I think Tnorah's beads were made in a more sophisticated way.
