I realise I should posting this with a picture but will add one later. I want to ask about a chest of drawers I have which has WM Morris stamped on the top and bottom of the faces of the top drawers (i.e. hidden from view when the drawers are closed).
Am I right in thinking this has come from William Morris' company Morris & Co.?
    I am in the UK.
    Thanks...

Welcome. We have some very knowledgeable UK folks, but are you having problems uploading your pictures? Pictures of the piece, the labels, the joinery, etc. are always helpful.

BTW I think the handles might not be original. There are no through holes on the inside of the drawers though so I might be wrong about that.

Style is certainly right and the hardware is likely original. The stamp is not a company name that Morris ever used but can find no examples of how his furniture was marked. You are probably best to consult with someone better versed in English furniture than I am. We have a few members from the UK so imagine they will be along. Otherwise, a quality furniture dealer or auction house there could probably help.

Thanks Verybard, I haven't been able to find examples of how they marked either. References always seem to be to Morris & Co so was thinking they might use that monika.
    Thanks for your help

If anyone wants to chip in with ideas about value in the Uk, I would love to hear from you. What I really want to know is if I should start looking for a place in Antigua or not... :)

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

From the photo, it appears that the W and the M at the beginning have a larger separation between them than the separation between the letters in MORRIS. Any chance the mark might say "W M MORRIS", with M being the initial for a middle name? I haven't determined whether "the" William Morris had a middle initial.

Nice thing. I'm not convinced it's THE Morris, but perhaps a good retailer. Two to three hundred quid, I'd think.

Thanks Figtree3, I had exactly the same thought about the initials. I believe he did not have a middle initial. Could be wrong but the conclusion I half reached was that 'WM' is 'William' abbreviated.

I have been looking for an alternative maker/retailer. There is a Glasgow maker called Morris but the WM doesn't fit. Thanks!
