I aquired some very interesting pieces of jewelry and I'm curious if anyone knows the history of this one. It is marked with 14K Gold Shell EM Co. Could those be real diamonds?

I'm not seeing any glitter there .......maybe a close up would help...

Gold shell implies some form of base metal core, I'd not be expecting anything but paste stones.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I don't think they are diamonds, and agree with AF that they are probably paste. It looks like it needs a good cleaning, you are right. Was it buried in the ground? The shank is very bent as well. I think it's probably from the early to mid 20th century.

Too bad one of the center stones is missing!

If you have one of the big box stores with a jewelry department near you take it there. They have a hand-held diamond tester and my experience has been they don't mind putting a suspected diamond to the test once in a while.
