Any thoughts on what the may have been on?

As I walked out to unload my trunk last night a neighbor pulled up and parked on the street near me. I began chatting and wasn’t paying attention much to what I was doing. I totally forgot or never noticed the piece had bolts in it when I picked up a bunch of stuff in a hurry. It ended up bottom down in a flimsy box. I ended up putting that box on my trunk with the dang bolt sticking through the bottom and scratched the heck out my black paint. I wanted to make grape juice out if it after that. It also managed to break the final off a lid of something else in the box. That’s what I get for not bringing enough packing materials and showing up too close to closing time. I end up in a rush and cost myself money. You’d think I’d learn but it’s pretty impressive the amount of times I damage something that’s been around long time in one short trip home. Think this may be the correct orientation. Decorative element for sumthin'. Centerpiece for marble fireplace surround perhaps. Like this (new and more elaborate) one.

    Beautiful old piece of architectural salvage-attached to a building,fountain,grave monument-how big ? How'd you find it ?
PS-Can you imagine how much of this stuff came out of Detroit in the last 20 years ?

I'm in deep sympathy, JD...some of the deeply aged things I have destroyed in a moment's inattention haunt me still.

Wouldn’t be surprised if you were correct re: orientation. Fireplace surround is as good an idea as any!

Around 10 1/2” high. Just part of a random box lot of things at auction.

Dang it makes me feel better that I’m not alone. I’ve damaged both things and multiple cars trying to fill them up with stuff quickly, that’s inadequately protected. It’s a deep and lasting irking. Misery loves company I guess :).

Haha yes I was being facetious. Grapes and winery makes sense.

So far I haven’t broken anything looking at it the wrong way. However I’m aging like rather cheap wine, so that day may be coming.

Grapes are a classical design motif and have symbolic meaning. From the internet: "Grapes symbolize many things. In ancient times, grapes were only available to the wealthy and thus often designated wealth. Grapes represent celebration, decadence, God, youth, and good health."
