A lot of mid century looking glass was about to get passed at an auction I was bidding in lately. Bid dropped to $50 and it looked like there was some profit to be made so I pulled the trigger split second despite not typically dealing in much modern glass.

Bowl is over 11” across and has an iridescence at certain angles.

Tazza has a match to make a pair. Gilt edges.

Neither is marked that I see. Anyone recognize them?

 

On the blue one. I believe it is called a console bowl.
I saw a very similar one online that said it was Northwood, but I am not sure that seller was correct. Lovely color.
Wait for the experts.

Pretty much the whole lot was this general shade of blue. Tazzas and a jadeite bottle only exceptions.

I’m seeing more and more bowls in multiple colors in this shape with the iridescence called Northwood. Seems safe to say that’s likely it!

OMG I got it right... holy cow.

I never heard of tazza before.

 

Since I didn't see anyone mention it yet . . . You're aware that this glass is not Mid Century but several decades earlier, right? Also, it's not very popular right now. Personally I like opal glass, better than milk glass, but it also isn't selling well and isn't a match for the blue bowl unless of course you like it that way.

 

Sometimes to sell an item that is not very popular now, we have to use keywords to get it to those eyes who are not looking for that item, but what they can use it for. There is a trend now with some buying that sugared or beaded fruit and putting them in a bowl like their family did way back when. I think a bowl like this could be s used for something like that too.

I see on etsy that many vintage items have tags with wedding, shower, party etc so people buy just because they like it for a special occasion rather than a collectible. I don't know how you would do that on other platforms, but others would know.

I was describing the overall lot I purchased not specifically these two pieces when I said “Mid Century looking”. Other than the fact that I do know 20th century factory molded glass isn’t a hot seller I know nothing about it. I didn’t know exactly when these pieces were from. The overall look of the lot reminded me the fire king jadeite type stuff and I associate that with the mid century look. More just a quick general blanket statement for how the stuff looked to my untrained eye than a declaration of actual manufacture era of these two specific pieces. Despite it not being the hottest segment of the trade I have every confidence I’ll do pretty well on the lot. I’ve done well with the jadeite stuff before and actually just remembered I have a buyer that asked to be contacted if I have more in that vein.
