Welcome to the forum, Netzero! Your pictures of the cross successfully uploaded to the forum's Gallery. It is a lovely cross. I don't have any help for you on this cross, but am sure someone will come along today with help.

I have taken the liberty of cropping, resizing and posting for pics to this query. Just about any graphic program on your computer can crop and resize pictures before trying to post/upload them. There are 2 factors that have to be considered on pictures/graphics: size/weight and dimensions. Your pictures were:

Size: Ideal size is no heavier than 150-200 KB.
    1. 4,529.14 KB (4,637,835 bytes)
    2. 4,489.55 KB (4,597,299 bytes)
    3. 3,548.58 KB (3,633,751 bytes)

Dimensions: Ideal size for viewing by all computers including iPhones and iPads is no wider than 650px.
    All of yours are 4,608px wide x 3,456px high. (scaled 651px w x 488px h)

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The stones look like amethyst, or possibly they are glass. Otherwise, I can't help with this.

    And, welcome to this website!

Any marks on the chain? They may be very small and are probably on the clasp. I suspect the cross is silver gilt and not technically 'antique'.

With that marking, I wonder if this is an example of that rare and not very popular technique of gold layered on platinum? Though that would be one honking piece of platinum if the size is indicated by the links in the chain.................

And the slight differences in the stones and the bezels around the stones leads me to believe that they are amethysts - possibly rose amethysts if the colours depicted are off on my monitor.

    Hi,
If it is a true cross FOR a bishop it would be amethysts. If it is cross FROM a bishop it could be anything.

Crucifix' are very popular sellers (at least for me). As far as value I would say anywhere between $100-130 would be a good price, maybe a bit higher because of the chain (is that marked as well?). Does anyone else think the chain looks like fennel seeds?

IF the cross indeed came in that box. What does it say on the inside of the box? I believe I see writing on the silk lining.
