My wife and I live in the Vale of Glamorgan (west of Cardiff in South Wales) and run an online collectables business as a retirement venture which we started several years ago as a hobby and it just grew! We love researching vintage and antique items, sometimes without success, and we were steered to this forum when I was asking for help in identifying some figurines.

We buy at auctions and car boot sales in Wales and England and mostly sell online via Ebay and our website.

Welcome to the motley mob. I am honorary part Welsh myself, as my partner is 3/4 Welsh, and we have a small escape pod near Brecon, and sell in Wales at a few car boot sales in that area, because the people are nicer than round here in the Midlands.

Please post any questions and please add opinions as you see fit. Quite a few people have been around since the board started with refugees from the scorched earth of the ebay boards but I don't think the board is cliquey.

There are quite a few old threads that are worth following through as more stories than anything else.

More UK members help diversify the understandably basically North American flavour.

A big welcome to you and your wife. Glad to have you on this forum.

"Car boot sales" bring to mind the (old) BBC program "Bargain Hunt" which aired here on Saturdays on our PBS channel. I don't think we (DH and I) ever missed an episode.

It was fascinating to us on this side of the Atlantic to see the many interesting (and really old) items offered at car boot sales. ;)

Thank you, looking forward to both contributing and posing one or two teasers. We've lived in Wales for 30 years but are both English. We've sold at some car boots but the early mornings no longer seem as attractive as a warm bed. Which is where I'm heading now. Night all.

They can be great places to buy, most stuff is junk but there are often items well worth buying. I remember Charlie Ross being filmed at our local car boot, I think it was for Antiques Road Trip, he bought badly!

And don't call bargain hunt 'old' they are still churning it out, on series 40 now.

Ooops, sorry. When we were watching it starting in 2000 or so I believe we were getting "old" episodes then . . . but perhaps not . . . maybe the episodes merely appeared to be "old." ;)

    Greetings, rhiwfield!

What should we call you "for short?" That name is quite a mouthful (not surprising for Wales, but still...)

The pm thing is called a 'conversation' and the start a conversation button is essentially 'send a PM' Look top right of the page. 'Inbox' is where they are.
