    Hello!
I have an pretty Art Deco style Marcasite ring that was given to my mother by my grandmother and was recently given to me. It contains a hall mark which is '935' or '936' the last number is hard to make out but one of those and 'Germany'. I would assume it would have been purchased around c1940 or c.1950 as my grandmother purchased it whilst she was still young and she is born in the 1930's. I would love to find out more about it as I love it and would love to know so any help would be greatly appreciated :)
    Thankyou so much in advance,
    Tara

Attached are some pictures I took of it .. worn and by itself :)

It looks a little art deco to me.
& when it was purchased , doesn't mean when it was made......
935 is a higher grade of sterling used by several countries.

It probably predates 1930, as they used a 935 standard (as well as .800) up to some time in the 1920s, I think. Then the 935 became 925, but it's tricky to find out exactly when this happened. (935 is a higher grade of silver, but not sterling, a term reserved for 925 silver.)

I do tend to be pedantic.

Not really, I often have to flee howling mobs who do not know the difference between a pedant, a pediatrician and a pedophile.

Even by West Midlands standards I live in a remarkably stupid area.

It seems to hold you in good stead around here ....while not causing any major conflagrations ......or contempt !

Thank you so much for your expertise! Much appreciated :)
I had a feeling it might have been older because upon research, I could not find many 1940s rings that were made in the same style if it were bought new. There were a few similar marcasite rings from the 1920s on Etsy that were similar but not as detailed (picture attached). The bands are very similar style to. I assumed it was purchased around the time but wasn't certain when it was made so thank you for both of your knowledge on hallmarks..interesting to learn. I think I will keep it for very special occasions because I do not want it to get too worn or damaged!
