    kyratango Bug jewellery addiction!

    Hi all!
Finally back after being very buzy with my in laws at home for one week, phew... exhausted:oldman::facepalm:;)

First, HAPPY 4TH OF JULY to the American members! :joyful:

Here is an interesting piece I got from Ebay UK, for about 20€/$:jawdrop:

Seller had no idea of what it is:joyful:

    Description:
"Antique gilded unusual necklace pierced engraved sections with one including a cherub head section. Difficult to describe as I am not quite sure what it is made from and if it has been converted from something else. Most of the sections have a strange key latch cover shaped part screwed to the centre of the sections. I am not at all clear of why/what these are for so any information would be very welcome. Measures 50cm long."

All these cocks are hand pierced and engraved brass.

Rather filthy and oxydised, I only washed it and gave a slight polish.

Gorgeous! I own two brooches with fusee cocks, but nothing like that necklace. Stunning.

They are true little works of art! Amazing there is such a quantity on the market... Thinking of all the beautiful old watches dismantled... (even if a lot may have had issues!)
    Your brooch is lovely!

    Thanks AJ!
It was the first steampunk fashion:joyful:

For the rest and spoiling myself.... Exactly what I'm doing and... HAPPY DANCE:hilarious::bag:

Yeah :) I bought it in France, so maybe the necklace has a similar origin.

I love antique steampunk. It's so cool that there was steampunk-style jewelry back in the Victorian era.

The bridge cocks (little hole each side, no foot) are almost certainly continental European, 18th C. and the footed cocks are English and by all appearances early 18th or even 17th C.
The wide, D shaped and pierced cocks are characterisic of early verge watches.

Rather a good find, not all that valuable although more so than you paid, but dripping with history.

    Thanks Aqui!:joyful::kiss:

:woot: Thanks, I didn't know the difference between continental and English cocks, and wouldn't have guess some are this old!
The history behind them is what I appreciate too plus the fact they haven't been altered (no soldered rings on them!).
Very frequently encounter brooches or stick pins, but necklaces seem scarce.
I know they are cheap, about 8 to 15$ individually, not at all representative of such a work!:wideyed:

You scored! It's sad that someone took the watches apart, but I'm glad someone else reused the pieces.
