Woah, a bargain for this beautiful piece!!!
It was meant to be hung on a wall so the size could be HUGE

 

I've seen pictures of nuns in full habit wearing rosaries that big, but nobody else.

 

Kyra, I hope its ok if I revive your thread with my newest acquisition? It arrived today from France and I m very happy with it.
I think it dates from 1800-1820.
The front looks great: 14 carat gold, royal topaz stones, collet set with a foiled back.
The back looks less good unfortunately:
It got a very bad repair into a brooch (I think originally it used to be a pendant). So 1/2 of its back is filled with tin-solder.
However, this made it possible to buy it for a very good price.

The darkened solder can be improved with polishing the blobs with a burnisher (agate or very smooth stainless steel) without scraping them.

Beautiful cross, love those stones, and yes, probably originally a pendant.

I usually use a gold marker to cover up ugly solder blobs. It has a lacquer-like gold colour, the consistency of thin nail polish. It can be removed if necessary.

 

I have that marker too, will show it when back home!

 

Here is the magic gold paint pen, 2 thickness, bought from Amazon
Just let fully dry several hours before touching the area

Both from French EBay, not expensive, 7.5cm included bail for the pastes one, boar's head, 7cm with bail too for the unmarked silver Aberdeen granite one

The cross with the glass/paste bits is what's called a flanged cross. I bet it's the old of the two by quite a lot.

OTOH it's a nice cross and I can't blame her for wanting it. Wanting to wear it over something skin tight and transparent maybe, but not for wanting the cross.

 

I never saw the Diana's cross before... And of course hadn't heard of this latest Kardashian buy

Here is my version of a huge cheap one, arrived today
Just cleaning of the oxidized silvered metal was needed, and I moved the two remaining dangles to center bottom of the earrings pendants
