There are certainly similarities to make one think both paintings were done by the same artist. I'm a bit concerned though about the modern sensibility of your portrait compared with Cybulski's works. The informal pose, for instance. And the long hair and beard. To my eye, these place it outside of his dates. Unless it's a history painting, of course.

Hi Debora, I think the pose of the lady is also informal, she appears to be leaning on a chair back that has a bag of some sort on the back of it. To try and date the man in my picture is , I agree, difficult. I think it may have been a self portrait as I can't see why you would paint somebody in that pose. I have only just found this artist and haven't tried to find a photo of him in later life to have something to compare to for testing my theory.

To the best of my knowledge, there is nowhere in the Western world where that hair length and beard would have been fashionable for men between the dates of 1878 – 1954.

That is interesting, my only slight glimmer of hope is that he is an old man that is in a bit of a state, hence the pose of head in hands, and he has let himself go as far as hair and beard trimming are concerned. I admit it is a long shot!

I have nothing of substance to add however it did occur to me that what looks like long hair could actually be a thick collar or fur collar. Just a thought. I like your painting better than that of the woman though no idea if by the same hand.

I wasn't able to find the painting of the woman, do you have a link to it please?

When I searched the name and Krakow, I found these, which look much different but appropriate to the time frame mentioned.. I found more that look similar to this, but none with a similar appearance to yours.

To 'say it slowly' The lack of detail doesn't allow you to say whether it is hair or fur collar, good observation though, in the same way that you can't see what he is actually doing with his hands. My instincts are telling me that he is not happy but it's good to leave it to individual interpretation, I'm glad you like it.
