It's from a rosary. Slightly opaque, dimpled, and with a bluish tinge. Almost a glowing quality.

I was just throwing together a rosary / medal lot and this caught my eye.

Not sure if there is a name for the bead itself. I would call the glass opalescent.

Yup, that's what I was going to say, too. Bet they're beautiful when the light catches them just right.

They're most likely Czech glass beads. I've had ones with incised stars, though mine weren't opalescent and were a rounded shape. There are almost endless varieties of Czech beads, ranging from new to very vintage, and yours easily could be Czech.

Here are a couple of examples online...

On mine? Yes, they are stars. I noticed that when I first got the beads, but I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me a bit and they were just dimples.

(I really need to get reading glasses but I've found even the weakest ones to be a bit too strong. Meanwhile, my arm keeps having to stretch further and further to see tiny details!)

Thanks Pat for the info on the czech beads. I don't recall ever seeing the star indented beads before. I never would have guessed they might be czech.

You're welcome, tie.dye... glad to help.

I used to make beaded jewelry and collected beads for about 30 years, so have seen (and still have) many varieties. A large number of glass beads and buttons come from the Czech Republic and they're usually very nice.

They look almost like Moonstone..that has an opalescent quality and is the similar colour. I doubt they would have made beads out of that though.

    Faceted moonstone beads.
    Vintage relic moonstone rosary.
The opalescent quality of the moonstone matches the colour of the beads.

I think both of these are too perfectly cut though..maybe a more roughly cut bead? But it does match some opaque glass beads I have seen.
