Old church window shutters

Discussion in 'Antique Discussion' started by Melanie MacDonald, Jun 30, 2019.

  1. Hi, i wonder if you could help me. I bought these window shutters today, i have two of them. They came from a local church. i think they are etched/frosted?. They are old. I hoped you may enlighten me as to how old they maybe and what they may be worth. The glass panes measure approximately 95cm x 29cm. Thank you. 65786262_1088094164730076_1507984221879140352_n.jpg 65320246_406373386638527_5184037608015003648_n.jpg 66030766_382648145713621_4594499998850220032_n.jpg 65320246_406373386638527_5184037608015003648_n.jpg 66030766_382648145713621_4594499998850220032_n.jpg 65909562_1230367587134331_3245375763867762688_n.jpg

I've never seen window shutters made with glass panels. "Shutters" are normally on the outside of the window (where I come from) and glass would be too fragile. Not to mention that the decor on these panels is very modern.

Nor do they look "churchy." Did you get them at a church rummage sale?

  4. Hi thanks for responding. They have come from a church. They still had a couple up and are fixed on the inside. I’m posting this thread from England. I was thinking that the glass panels may be 70s and the frames are definitely older.

I also got an 80s vibe from the decoration. They are very pretty,I could think of a few uses.

  6. Hi, How would you place them? They are just a tad short for dressing screens.

You say you have 2 - as in 2 sets of 2? Some people put screens like this across a corner of a room to soften the angularity.

Well, advice about painting the wood and fair price need to come from a member familiar with the British market. I'm several thousand miles away. ;)

  11. I know lol, but i could take a guess from this side of the pond from what you would think was a fair price your side, if that makes sense lol

It isn't just calculating the currency. Markets vary from country to country and even within a country.
    They are very pretty, btw.

If planning to sell, I would not paint them. Leave that to the buyer.

  14. Thank you, i do try and keep up but have never had anything like these. They spoke to me, i thought they were pretty and got a nice feeling from them.

  15. Good point. thank you.
