Eally a good grab for $15:joyful:
I'd glue with epoxy either a brooch fitting or a glue on bail.
The chance to get an oval fitting both the mesurements and the curve is... infinitesimal!:D

You could probably find someone who does wire wrap jewellery to do it for you. For an example, see eBay seller khoward1212.

That's what I'd do. It's safer than glue and easily reversed. And no springs to eat the cameo like plate holders do porcelain or pottery.

Anti, this link is dead ending; looks like it is redirecting. Does it have to do with LiveAuctioneers? As I understand them, they do not sell anything themselves. They offer an intermediary service to B&M auction houses enabling them to put their sales live on the Internet & also alerting registrants when lots that might be of interest are coming up.

Rather crudely carved, but an interesting scene!

That had crossed my mind but I'm not partial to all the frills that are normally on wire-wrapped pieces. But I'll look into it further and see if someone offers this service and a basic design is available.

Thanks so much for the offer but the piece is approximately 2" x 1.5".

OOOH, I hadn't thought of that, thanks for mentioning it.

I think I've found an easy/cheap option to "mount" my loose cameo as a pendant. The wire will bend forward over the cameo to look like prongs from the front. Available in sterling silver or "gold-filled".

Would you mind to say where it could be bought?
I have some pieces it should be convenient for wearing :)

There are many bEtsy sellers of this type of thing, often offering custom lengths, etc. Search words: claw pendant blank.

While I think it would have been no problem to ask a wire wrapper to make something very minimal for you, this looks like a great option. If it doesn't suit, no problem to try something else. I wanted to tell you about another type of setting I see on some older pieces, but was too tired to explain it in words or take photos. It is this sort of thing, except just 2 metal pieces crossed at the back & the ends folded over the edge to make little claws, no circle.

I'm happy to see this too, may consider for loose pieces of mine. :)

He has had this listed for many years now. The description is mine, based on another frequently seen cameo motif:

Definitely molded. If the complete lack of any undercutting were not enough of a clue, the appearance of the chip on the back gives it away. Chips on real lava pieces have a rougher texture to the touch & a more matte look to the eye. This one reveals a shiny material beneath the matte finish (the white patches are glare):
