Struggling with reading the name. The writings on the stretcher are in French but the stretcher itself is Anco. So not sure what is the true origin of the artwork.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

    My best guess is Strohbach.

    I agree with vintagerobin.

The French translates to "Flowers are the poetry of Nature."

    Thanks.
So, German name and French writings would make it Swiss I guess. The stretcher is US but not sure if the canvas is European.

    Hi,
I am seeing a student in the USA with a Germanic last name painting flowers and giving it a French name.

But on the other hand I'm not sure with the year, since he dies 1949. Could the year next to the signature mean something different than '67? Possibly '07???

Did not see your last post.
If he was born in 1891, 07 would mean he was only 16 years old when he painted it. Which is not impossible. The style is not as mature as on the other examples I saw.

On this page it says that he was known for his expressionistic stage settings in Berlin and Cologne in the 1920s.

So I guess you made a good catch! May I ask where you found this painting?

I'm skeptical that they're the same artist. In Kard's painting, the initial looks like an "N" and the date really does look like "67" to me. My $.02, anyway.

I'm seeing 67 too, and the stretcher bears that out. I don't think it's much older.

I'll say 61 , as it's european - ish ...the one has a top and the 7 has that xtra cross in the middle......
    ehh...my 2 cents.

Agree. Stretcher and canvas are consistent with the 1967 date. I also clearly see an N

I cross my 7s too, so that doesn't mean much.

    Hi,
I also cross my 7s and my Zs. Far less chance of prescription errors. Pharmacists loved me and my nurses loved me since I printed instead of writing. It is so strange I can print faster than I can write. The only thing stranger is my signature is NEVER ever written the same. I swear sometimes I am not sure that I signed something.:eek::eek::eek:

I think the artist will remain a mystery. Could be Hans, his son or some other.
It is possible the painting was restretched. The writing in French on the bar looks to me like not done by the artist.
Can't tell about the canvas. I've seen very dirty ones that are not that old and pretty clean being on 100 years.
I also see N initial but look at his writing. The last "h" in his signature has nothing to do with the first. Won't be surprised if what looks like 67 to be other number, or maybe those are not digits at all. If the art was done in Europe it is almost sure the 7 would be crossed.
