    Hello everybody

I am looking for some help on this item it's weight is about 780 grams it's measures are 18 heigh 13 width 9,5 depth (cm).
It's a heavy piece with thickwanded glass.
I think it's a free blown glass but I am not sure (not an expert on it).
It has a pontil scar on the base.
I am searching for about 2 weeks and going with it by several antiquairs and museums and nobody couldn't tell me how old it is or if it's a reproduction or something I also can't find a piece what lookes a bit like it on Google
I really am interested in this piece history also if someone can help me valuing this item then feel free to do so.
I am really curious about it.
the expert here in the Netherlands looked at my pictures and thought it was some kind of Hebron glass but she has to see it in person to give a good answer (I will eventually go to this expert after the summer period).
    many thanx in advance.
if it's a repro from the last decade could the pontil then be a fake?
the color is also strange sometimes it looks green in other lighting it looks blue ??
also are there many tiny yellow strange dots in this glass (by looking very closely)
And when you look into the glass it seames to been scratched heavily on the bottom (at the inside).
The glass itself containes very much air bubbles
Many thanks for reading and helping in advance.

    Regards Michel

I think you will need an "in person" evaluation. It looks convincing, but looks can be faked. It might have been produced much more recently than Roman times while still using ancient techniques. It will require examination by someone familiar with ancient glass. How did you acquire it?

Does the color look different in incandescent light than it does in florescent light?

    Hi

First of all thanx for reading and your opinion.
i got this item by a house cleaning from some older people who left it behind.

I will upload some more pictures so you can see what I mean (blue or green color).
I made one picture with a flashlight in the back of it.

It is really the way the light falls on the item.

    Regards Michel

I think it is mold blown. The use of molds goes back to 1st century BC Romans. The applied handle and lip formation would require the use a a pontile rod to hold the hot glass. I can not comment on age.

I'll hope so that somebody could find any similar item it's making me nuts googled it over and over again for about two weeks in different languages and can't find anything looking similar to this one.
When it's a reproduction or some kind of the last decade wouldn't it be easier to find something similar?
    Thanks everybody for the thoughts.

    Hi Michel,
If you Google Murano glass scavo, you can see many similar pieces. It could be mid century modern Italian glass.

Thnx for the welcoming yeah I'm not really a book guy, usually I find what I'm looking for on the internet with less or no problem at all.
this one however is a huge problem.
In time I will go dig into books to get an answer on my questions.

@lauragarnet that idea crossed my mind also but I couldn't really put a link between them my thought was scarpa glass (the glass itself seems the same in some way) the way the total looks is different in my opinion.

This does have the appearance of an ancient bottle that has been buried for centuries but there are a lot of fakes out there. Pontil marks would be found on either. It is similar to some Roman bottles I find.

    Here is an old one.

    These are fakes.

This one is old and has similar iridescence to yours.

Yep seen that, but my problem is the way the Romans applied their handles that's different by mine.
also the thickness from the glass, Romans used normally thin glass.
    weird.

Also I was thinking if it's a mold blown glass wouldn't their a lot more of these ones (when it's a fake) I mean molds normally are used to make more pieces, my problem is that the meassures of my piece and weight don't match with others.

There likely are....but those don't get posted on the net, nearly as much as the real ones.

I think the differences you are seeing are more likely indicators that it is a modern reproduction. The evenness of the rim on yours is particularly bothersome. I do think you need a hands-on evaluation of this to be sure.

You could be right but I also searched for fraud/fake items from Jerusalem or tourist souvenirs but really I can't find a similar item.

@verybrad here is another closer picture of the neck and top thanx for the thoughts so far, I will eventually go and see a specialist in a few weeks with it

I don't really have anything more to add. I am not an expert in such glass but have seen some examples. You are right in that the ancient examples and even the reproductions tend to be of thinner glass and a bit different configuration. I hope this is a nice old glass vessel. I just think you are going to need an expert to determine whether or not it is.
