Hi all. Found this in hoodwill today and I almost plotzed. Just recently we had a thread about Roman glass and I said how much Id love a piece. Is it too much to hope I actually found one??? Its about 6 inches high,3 wide .Is it a more modern souvenir,or some other country ? Any input is always appreciated. If its just meh,Im only out .67 cents !
That other thread had a video clip that said the iridescence on old glass is very fragile and tends to flake off. If the iridescence is on there solidly, that's a sign of a fake.
If not real Roman it's a nice copy. Like I'm some kind of expert (yeah, right) If nothing else it'll work as a place holder until the real thing turns up.
I did find one example online of that pinched(?) sides .I scraped the bottom with my thumbnail and it came right off to the glass underneath. I am thrilled it *might* be real ! Thank you all for the input!
Johnny-I know that yr as 'frugal' as me,but where did ChillSwill come up w/ the odd price of 67 cents ? There must've been a discount factored in perhaps. PS-Congrats-a beauty !
Is there an acknowledged expert on glass age & provenance where you could send this stuff to have it dated. Most museums don't have the time or budget-unless it's a donation !
Gotta love Senior Day. Mine alas only offers a huge (heh) 10%, i.e. they essentially cover the sales tax.
