There are precious few sites available anymore with actual substance and scholarship so I'm very grateful every time I find someone still willing to get knowledge out there. I did register some time ago (the Clytie article is certainly a good reason to do so!) but I'm guessing it ended up looking like a spam bot since I tend to put very little in my registrations. I've just applied again with this name.

I'm so glad you like her as much as I do. I've gone over every inch of her with a loupe and investigated every scratch, but she has no signatures or marks. I've taken to interrogating other carvings looking for similarities in style hahaaa. I try not to get invested in things I can't prove, but after I got more familiar with the time period that the Clytie bust was all the rage I too was surprised that her findings were later. The one in the British Museum is 1850s I think. I can't imagine why someone would leave her unmounted for so long, but maybe she had another mount?

I LOVE all your Clyties. Seeing them all it's so interesting to see where different artists made different decisions on her look. That mount is especially fun and well made. Is it Etruscan Revival? I'm such a sucker for those.

I try to chase info back to more original sources & not rely exclusively on what has already been published about cameos. So much of it is twaddle.

Your registration is complete. Your first one should still be valid too, if you remember it.

This is up for sale on eboo, another example of why the toothy smile doesn't work :(

unless you're going for that Undead look or costuming a horror movie. Works great for that.

My second cameo is a coral triplet on a 10k watch fob brooch, 3" across. It's such an interesting shape. I don't know if it's Etruscan Revival or something else. Not sure if fittings are original as there is soldering work. It also has a fitting missing whatever it was attached to, located center bottom, next to the fob hook. It's a ring around a post, with a flattened disc, that moves freely. The other side have stationary rings. I haven't come across something like it yet so am curious what those were for.

I love that all three women are slightly different, with the center lady wearing a diadem and the side women wearing 2 different flowers.

The worst part is since I found her on eboo, every time I sign on, there she is staring at me

A nicer kind of screaming: doesn't that just scream Victorian. The hinge & clasp look much newer; think you are correct that they have been replaced. Certainly some archeological revival influence there, although I would say it copies anything ancient.

I wasn't able to work out from the pic of the back quite what you are describing about the fob hook & other findings on the central section, not seeing a hook. If a small one is there, also possible it was for another, fancier dangle for evening wear. Hooks for watches are usually pretty substantial.

Your little coral ladies make me think maybe we should have a show & tell for the smallest cameos/intaglios people have. I will have to do some photography to get my entry in. Have a really wee coral one, somewhere, I think. This little Diana is probably about the same size as your gals:

Hook on the right, ring with no attachment in the middle. I wonder if was some sort of chatelaine? But ooh interesting theory on a Day/Evening convertible.

I would LOVE to see everyone's mini cameos! They don't get all the attention the big beauties do but when looked at in the manner intended from farther away, some are so impressive. I have one other mini and another on the way that I can share. I love your Diana! Her hair is lovely.

    @mirana I live your cameo!
Here is my mini one, 20mmx15mm.
I got it for cheap to mount as a ring for a friend:happy:.
Now waiting to receive the mount of the right size I ordered from India, and hope it will fit:D Resized_20230107_111814~3_1687362819873204.jpeg 20230107_111921~3_1687362493759627.jpg 20230107_111904~3_1687362628444435.jpg Screenshot_20230107_114427_Samsung_Internet~2_1459066414173497.jpg

Oooh @kyratango she's lovely! I love the rounded flowers having such depth and that they paid attention to the bodice fabric being rounded on a form. Your friend is lucky! Can't wait to see the finished ring.

Thank you! I searched for months to find a nicely carved small one, and BAM I had the luck to be the only bidder at 5.99£:woot:

Thank you! All I saw before were the "bull neck" sort:hilarious:
It will be posted in her own thread when the "kyratisation" will be completed:)

 What an absolute steal!! You must be on an absolute high still.

@bluumz I adore the putti all squished together--the artist did such a good job you can just imagine them moving. The pink color placement...I haven't seen one of these except yours and it's so great. The second one looks like he's about to speak! And I'm such a sucker for carved curls. :joyful:
