Just came across this CDV recently and wanted to share because I think it's so beautiful. To me, it's one of those photos that is more like a work of art - the photographer has done something a little different to the 'norm'. Hope you agree!

    I agree wholeheartedly.

Brings to mind this portrait of my grandmother (born 1890.) I assume she's in her teens.

What a beautiful portrait, Bakersma :). I admire the photographers that went the extra mile with the lighting and posing... it's lovely how your grandmother has a hint of a smile. She looks quite wistful & deep in thought.

Thank you, Batman. I just wish I knew where the picture was taken (it would confirm an approximate date since the family moved from Michigan to Minnesota sometime between 1900 and 1910.

The profile confirms without a doubt (not that there ever was one) that my Dad was her son. ;) Looks just like him in his teens.

IMG_2157.JPG IMG_2159.JPG IMG_2160.JPG Sharing this photo in the hopes that someone will recognize the photographer's name. His name is Harold A. Taylor and we think he worked in California around 1906. Photograph is titled "At the Well." We have owned it for around 15 years and have not tried to have it reframed. Photo appears to be glued down. It is most likely hand tinted. We love it and hope you all enjoy seeing it.

Harold A Taylor, photographer, born England 1880, is found in Coronado City, San Diego Cty, CA from the middle of the first decade of the 20th century (directories) up to and including the 1940 federal census.

There was one year in the early going when he shows up in LA, but once he married (about 1907-8) he stayed put. Even opened an art supply shop.

Lovely photo, Jen. Bet it looks even better without the reflections on the glass.

Thank you. I think it must be the same Harold A. Taylor. We had found a mention of him in the catalog at the Eastman Kodak Library that mentioned Coronado, Ca.
Yes, the photo is really lovely when the glass is off. Needs to have one of those non-glare frames, but we just brought it home when we got it and hung it up as is.
We have always thought the subject matter of the Japanese woman at the well was beautifully down and not typical of photos of that time. I have printed out the information and affixed it to the back of the frame for the next owner.
