    The metal hinge part looks like those used on trinket boxes. But what in heaven's name could you keep (and still be able to remove) in such an odd shape? A little folded piece of paper?

    Maybe. I would not want to put anything in there that might get bumped or scratched from the effort to insert or remove it.

    It's pretty big.... I was thinking more of a chain, nothing large on it.

    I'm thinking the head and body were molded separately & just attached that way.

    Every trinket 'box' I see now has rings of that type around the opening.
    Wouldn't be at all surprised if this was from Cost Plus.

    I mean the only thing I could see being put in there that would come out easily ..

    would be sand or water !!!!!:smuggrin:

    Match case for longish wooden matches-this style was probably intended more for kitchen use. My WAG anyway.
