I just bought this beaded belt. length beadwork ca 65 cm, height ca 6,5 cm. I would think the beads are glass, in middel part a bit tubular instead of round. I initially thought it might be native american. But have no idea really, and can't find exemples online with similar bordering and/or very basic pattern. Any ideas around here? Would be happy with any pointers :) IMG_3427.JPG IMG_3428.JPG IMG_3429.JPG

I get an African vibe, but I could be totally wrong. @2manybooks ?

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

    excellent pics JohnNL........
It's lovely...but not any North American 1st Nations manufacture or bead style that I'm aware of..
it looks to be twisted cotton surrounded by a type of plant fiber....
but if I stare at it long enuf.....I could be seeing sinew.....

even the best pics...are no substitute for my hands & nose...:wacky::wacky::wacky::hilarious:

thnx komokwa. don't know about sinew or coton. tried to make more close up pic of some thread ends in the middle beadwork. not so sharp. but looks more like twirled fiber than coton? colorwise anyway? IMG_3432 klein.jpg IMG_3431klein.jpg

I'd guess Kenyan, but that's a WAG. The construction method looks African, and those are old trade beads. The Kenyans have a long beading tradition. But....?

Have you looked further south, Zulu, and the like?

I don't recognize it immediately. The technique is similar to Zulu (called peyote stitch in the context of NA beadwork), but the colors don't seem right. I don't have time at the moment for more thought/poking around - maybe later this evening.
