I'm still stuck on resin. It's the crater in her shoulder and all the little balls in her hair...

But "not lava" was the main thing I was looking for. Right now, the biggest sensation for me when I look at what I believe is actual lava is how dry it looks... as if it would be almost sandy to the touch.

Some look more clay like, but those tend to be what I believe is dyed... Not currently a fan, but interested all the same.



My current fan-girling is reserved for Etruscan Revival... I have a crush on these settings.

 

Is this Sophia Loren or it is my imagination ?

 

It's quite possible she was inspired by Sophia; would date from the period when S.L. was at her peak.

Lava ?

 

Hard to be certain about this one too, but looks closer to the real thing than the first one. Suspect this is the modern, reconstituted type.

 

The texture is variable. Some is finer grained, so smoother. There's another type of molded cameo that is more often than not mistaken for lava but is always molded, sometimes known as dripstone.

 

I just know that of the things it may well be, "porcelain" is not one of them.

Though, I guess you could spray-paint porcelain and get that lovely opaque shade of volcanic ash.
