Featured 1920’s cedar chest?

I bought this cedar chest today at an estate sale. I thought it was probably from the 70’s. I mainly based that assumption on the green shag carpet, the color of the chest and the fact that everything else in the house seemed to be 50’s to 70’s. However, the lady at the sale told me it originally belonged to her grandmothers sister who was born around 1905. And she thought this chest was 20’s or 30’s. Since I know nothing about furniture, I thought I would ask y’all. The hardware certainly looks newer to me but I suppose that could have been replaced. The lady also said it had been repainted more recently.

 

20s-30s seems right. I actually like the red.

So do I. Cfh, you could decorate it like a traditional chest from Hindeloopen, the Netherlands, they love that red as well.

 

The design would easily lend itself to polychrome.
