What is it on? What is the diameter of the seal? If it is on furniture then probably the seal of the manufacturer. I have taken the liberty of cropping your pic for a closer look. It appears to have 3 Russian Orthodox churches, those with onion shape spires, with a cross the top of each spire. On the bottom are the letters SM. The script appears to be in Latin rather than Cyrillic script? If there is more lettering on the seal, I can't make it out. Am including my edit version of the pics in hopes someone else can make it out.

It is on a wooden plaque with a Egyptian looking man holding a small child on the front. The stamp is on the back of the plaque. The item is as work so I can't take a picture of the front until tomorrow.

You are mean and obviously narcissistic to call yourself "kingofthings" I thought this was a forum to ask questions no matter what your antique skill level is. Have a great day!

Sorry, just a little fun therefore the smileys you see. :)
And I was given that name long ago by someone who found that everything they came and asked me, for I had. :)

Oh! I forgot! Regarding the wax seal. It looks like onion dome church steeples with the letters SM underneath. Makes me think the picture on front might represent Jesus and Joseph?
Don't forget to post a pic of the front as soon as you can JenjenQ.

I wonder if it's modeled on a pilgrim token.

Perhaps seal is that of gift shop at Church of Santa Maria della Presentazione in Venice. 3 domes, initials SM for Santa Maria? The image on the front of the plaque may represent the story or legend of that church.

    aka Spinsters' church

was built in the late XVI century on Giudecca island, and was part of a complex which had the purpose of housing poor young single women whose families could not affort their dowry.

Destined to remain zitelle (spinsters) forever, the girls were taught embroidery and music in order to support themselves and not to be involved in prostitution.

Icon of Virgin Mary The Theotokos and Jesus Christ, Byzantine, Eastern/Russian Orthodox. Or somethin' along those lines-I don't know enough of the details of that area to get it right but am sure someone here will straighten us out.

Could also be Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow, or Naval Cathedral of St Nicholas in St Petersburg, Russia, both are Byzantine in style and decoration and may have sold this piece as a souvenir.

Or maybe St Mark's basilica in Venice, a Byzantine structure dating from 11th C. If so it might account for the "SM."

Ya know, I was going to include St Mark's, but the photo was "off" just enough for me to be afraid that you would all laugh at my poor eyesight................But now I do believe that Spring may be correct............I never gave the SM a thought................

Thank you all. Does anyone think it is of any monetary value?

All else being equal, in general I've found religious ephemera to sell relatively quickly. But I don't know anything about selling wood plaques.

By the way, please don't be put off by KingOfThings' post. He was just joking. :)
