Saw this exact same photo on Reddit with the following, "My grandpa showed this to me today. He says it's his great-great-grandfather's snare drum from the American Civil War." ???
I don't see it for something actually used in the war. Maybe afterwards when they were having memorial events. I could be wrong. I'd like to see more photos from different points of view.
Here's a picture of a real drum corps from the Civil War. I'm just not seeing that thing I posted above, as being one of these.
...I found this Civil War snare drum, with the metal tacks in a similar pattern..however, I would expect to see a typical 'wear' pattern, and I'm not seeing this on either drum.??? What wear I CAN see on both drums appears to me to be 'contrived'.? http://www.shilohrelics.com/cgi-bin/display_item.asp?106150
Ohh, okay. I thought you were saying there was something not-1865-ish about red/white/blue and I was like Wait, what?
Just the one photo? It is a period drum, IMHO. At least 19th. Cent.. If there are no markings a CW connection seems tenuous at best. I would find it odd in anything BUT red white and blue if CW.
