To clean or not to clean?

I thought about cleaning up this frame, but now I'm not so sure. When is it better to leave it be? And if I do clean it, what route should I go? This frame has likely been tarnished for 20+ years (and it has friends).

A good cream silver polish and elbow grease is most recommended if I remember correctly. Before you attempt to polish, remove the photographs and be sure to wash the silver in warm soapy water and dry thoroughly - it will remove surface gunk and make polishing that much easier.

Might as well clean it; I don't think it could get worse. Be careful if it's plated though; I've seen lots of silverplate "cleaned" right down to the base metal.

I can't easily clean it with water because it's attached to velvet...I can't say I understand it, but I don't want to tear it apart.

 

I use silver polishing gloves.......i really do.

 

get some Maas polish even if it is plated it will be fine I have used it on plated items many of times. Just wipe on dont let it dry and wipe off. Then I take a sunshine cloth and make it shine
