I was thinking early 20th, worn by an artsy type of the time. I probably would have worn it at the time. Well worn stones can have that sheen due to porosity.
The central bead is like a lavaliere suspended from the two 'pearls'.

I'm still thinking it's a mushel, to quote my grandmother. Some of the bits are newer than others. Those lumpy stones could have been used in the Arts & Crafts era, but those brass beads are a maybe. That old restringing job is confusing things.

@Any Jewelry , Thankyou for your information about the necklace. I saw this one today at a village fete and immediately spotted the same 9ct clasp. This looks old as well, do you think it’s from a similar era? -any idea of the material the beads are made of? Cold and quite heavy. Thankyou :)

Sorry, it’s difficult to get an idea of scale from those photos. The beads range from 0.5- 0.75cm

It looks like coral. And if it is... score!

I didn't think of coral. Are antique (if that's what it is?) coral necklaces particularly desirable?

It has coral color, coral is cold to the touch, dimensions would make it a very chunky one:woot:
    Did you bought it?
It would be significant to see close up of the blemishes in some beads, @KSW :cyclops::peeking::)

Yes, I picked it up for £1 at a village fete. Beads are only little- 50mm and 75mm.
    I’ll take more photos tonight.

You did well, even if not coral, the clasp may be 9ct:joyful:
Need a good wash in lukewarm soapy water!

Try to take crisp close up of green circled areas:

Just saw on your last pic, close up of the open clasp, there is oxydised French bullion wire around the end of threading!
That is sign of quality, together with the knots between the beads!

Cheaper modern ones are dyed stuff, not genuine coral... Chinese are excellent for that:D

One very lucky find! Yep, real coral and 19th century gold clasp. British necklace, but the coral is Mediterranean.

Is the whole necklace likely to be 19th century or later than the clasp?.

I’ll give it a wash tonight and take more photos. Sadly I’m out at work at the moment.
